Welcome to the San Juan Islands Scenic Byway!

The San Juan Islands Scenic Byway was designated by Washington State in April 2009. The Byway is divided into three segments: the first one-third encompasses 30 miles along the beautiful, blue marine highway (Washington State Ferries routes), the second one-third is a driving tour around San Juan Island, and the last third is a driving tour on Orcas Island.

Horseshoe-shaped Orcas Island is 57 square miles of curving rural roads, stunning shoreline, and a handful of charming hamlets where talented artisans abound.  Attractions along the byway include Orcas Village, where the Washington State Ferries arrive and depart; West Sound marina, lodgings and restaurant; and nearby Deer Harbor marina, lodgings and dining.  Orcas Island Pottery is the oldest pottery in the Northwest (1945), and Orcas Island Artworks in Olga is an artist co-op and café in a 1938 strawberry barreling plant, showcasing 45+ artists.  Other highlights include Rosario Resort and historic Moran Mansion (1909), and relaxing Doe Bay Resort & Retreat.  Visit Eastsound village, the hub of Orcas Island, and be sure to see 5,252-acre Moran State Park, then drive, hike or bike to the top of 2,409-foot Mt. Constitution for gorgeous views of the islands.

Discover something new around every bend on 55-square-mile San Juan Island.  Explore the historic town of Friday Harbor where Washington State Ferries, seaplanes and pleasure boats come and go.  Find lighthouses at Lime Kiln Point State Park, also known as Whale Watch Park (1919), and Cattle Point Interpretive Area (1935).  Learn about the Pig War “Crisis” at American Camp and English Camp, both units of the San Juan Island National Historical Park. Walk along two-mile South Beach, through lavender fields at Pelindaba Lavender Farm, or in the 20-acre San Juan Islands Sculpture Park.  Enjoy historic Roche Harbor Resort, alpacas and the country store at Krystal Acres Alpaca Farm, or San Juan Vineyard’s tasting room of award-winning wines.
