This hike is one that will get your heart rate up as it is a consistent series of switch’s from bottom to top. We only walked until the second significant overlook but one can walk all the way to the top and connect with the Fourth of July Creek Trail If you’re feeling mighty fit and have a car shuttle set up with a partner. This hike is best done in Spring and Fall is it can get downright hot on the trail.
The trail switches back and forth through wildflowers in Spring and huge old Ponderosa Pine and forest grasses the rest of the year. Note that when you can first see the ridgeline above, you are about halfway. When you get to thhe top of the ridge overlooking Tumwater Canyon, this is a great spot to rest, take photos and have a picnic! You can either end your hike here by turning right and following the trail for a couple of hundred yards. The trail will ends and you’ll be able to see Leavenworth below. From here we backtracked a little (traveling left at the Saddle) and headed back up for another half hour or so until cake to a second overlook before heading back down.
