Snohomish River Estuary

River Otter

In the Snohomish River Estuary just east of downtown Everett is a 412-acre sanctuary for more than 200 species of waterfowl and shore birds that reside or stop here throughout the year. Surrounded by trees and saltwater and fresh water sloughs, numerous wildlife such as coyote, deer, river otter, rabbits, frogs, and other small mammals and amphibians can also be seen or heard.

This is a unique place where the nutrient rich waters of the Snohomish River come in contact with the saltwater of Possession Sound.  The overlapping of fresh and salt waters creates an area more productive in plant an animal species than a tropical rain forest.  At least 350 different kinds of birds and countless varieties of mammals and plants call this special place home.

Public access to the Snohomish River Estuary can be gained at multiple locations which include the following:

Langus Park (Everett)
Ebey Waterfront Park (Marysville)
Spencer Island (SnoCo Parks)
Union Slough (Everett)
